Women's Soccer Off to a Perfect Start in Preseason Matches

The Skyline Women's Soccer team has played two home matches so far this season and to say they are off to a great start would be selling the team short. Under second year Head Coach Mike Sharabi the Trojans feature a solid core of returning players and a group of talented freshman that have so far been racking up goals like they have been playing together for years.

The Trojans opened with a 9-0 win over College of the Redwoods on Aug. 29th. Six different Skyline players scored in the game, with sophomore Dominique Garibay (Hillsdale) scoring the first goal of the season for Skyline before adding her second later in the match. Freshman Fabiana Bolanos (Menlo Atherton) also netted her first two collegiate goals to help Skyline take a 6-0 halftime lead. Five other freshman added goals for Skyline, including Mariah Stansberry (Newark Memorial), Alondra Nungaray (Capuchino), Haylee Klingler (Mercy Burlingame), Erin Manning (St. Ignatius) and Naidelin Manzo (Oceana).

Sophomore goalkeeper Melanie Garcia (Jefferson) proved to be a steady influence in the box for the Trojans, making five saves to earn the shutout.

Skyline's second match of the season went much like the opening one, as the Trojans topped visiting Mendocino College 7-0. Haylee Klingler tallied twice in the first half, both off assists from Mariah Stansberry, who also scored her second goal in the match, helped Skyline to a 5-0 halftime lead. Dominique Garibay added her third goal of the season and Alondra Nungaray put away her second. Two more Trojans scored their first goals of the season in the game as Emily Moberly (Windsor) and Samantha Patino (Summit Shasta) found the back of the net in the second half. Goalkeeper Melanie Garcis added three saves and her second clean sheet of the season.

Up next: Skyline will host Diablo Valley College on Sept. 8th @ 12:30pm
