Fresno, CA – The 12 best Women's Community College wrestling teams in California gathered for the 3C2A Women's Dual Meet Championship at Fresno City College on March 8, 2025. In a tournament that featured a unique seeded pool format—where teams ranked 1 through 12 were divided into four seeded pools with the pool winners advancing to the semifinals and then the championship—Skyline College, a first-year program from San Bruno, CA, exceeded expectations by finishing 4th overall.
Debut and Early Success
Heading into the tournament with an undefeated conference record of 5-0, the Skyline Trojans, primarily composed of talented wrestlers from San Mateo and Santa Clara Counties, entered the championship as the #4 seed. Their opening match was against the #5 seed, Sacramento City College. Despite falling behind early, the Trojans rallied spectacularly in the final four matches, securing pins from Shannon Cleary (145), Jamie Micallef (160), Annette Beltran (180), and Alia Vunipola (207) to clinch a 30-20 victory.
Advancing Through the Bracket
Following the successful start, Skyline advanced to their second match where they faced the #12 seed, Bakersfield College. The Trojans demonstrated their depth and resilience with a 26-17 win, solidifying their reputation as a formidable force in the tournament. Semifinals and 3rd Place Match In the semifinals, Skyline took on the top-seeded Cerritos College. Although the match ended in a 44-3 loss to Cerritos, the Trojans did not let this setback overshadow their achievements. In the contest for 3rd place against the #3 seed, East Los Angeles College, Skyline wrestlers Arianna McPike (138), Jamie Micallef (160), and Annette Beltran (180) delivered commendable performances, earning individual wins that contributed to their impressive showing.
Looking Ahead
"This performance was beyond our expectations for a first-year team," said Olga Camacho, head coach of Skyline College Women's Wrestling. "Every match demonstrated our team's spirit, skill, and determination. We're excited to build on this momentum as we prepare for our next dual meet against Lassen on March 12 at Skyline."
