Dino Nomicos - Athletic Director/Dean of Kinesiology, Athletics and Dance

Following an illustrious coaching career spanning over 38 years (20 at Skyline College), Dino served as the Head Baseball Coach at Skyline College, changing the face of the program forever.  As the head coach, Dino and accumulated a record of 419-358 (.541 winning percentage), making him the all-time winningest baseball coach in Skyline College history.  In 2004 and 2007, Dino was twice been named Coast Conference Coach of the Year.  Additionally, Dino was named Victory Coach of the Year for the State of California in 2014.  Dino has served 18 years as a state representative on the executive committee of the CCCBCA for the state of California.

 

During his tenure as head coach, Dino Nomicos has produced 18 All-Americans, 12 players named All-Northern California, 122 players named to All-Conference, four players earning Gold-Glove Honors, two players receiving the Big Stick Award, and over 30 players signing professional baseball contracts.  In the classroom the Trojan baseball program has benefited from the guidance of Dino as well.  Dino has graduated 95% of his student athletes to four-year universities, with 80% of them receiving baseball scholarships to top universities throughout the country.

 

The Skyline College sports complex has also felt the presence of Dino, as he helped guide the building a new state of the art athletic complex in 2005.  The complex has a state-of-the-art Field Turf baseball field, two state of the art soccer fields, 1500 bleacher seats, 150 sit-down seats donated by the San Francisco Giants, a spectacular baseball press box with a coach’s office and concession stand, a three-cage turf batting cage, new bathrooms, a picnic area, a media room, state of the art locker rooms at the baseball complex and soccer field, new Sports Medicine training room, and classrooms.

 

As a professor/faculty member at Skyline College, Dino continually committed to serving students and the community.  Dedicated to equity and equality, Dino created an environment in the classroom that empowered his students and allowed all students to thrive and reach their personal, professional, and educational goals.  Additionally, Dino served on numerous committees, including the Budget Committee, FTE Committee, Academic Senate, and multiple hiring committees. 

 

Prior to his tenure at Skyline College, Dino spent seven years as an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator at the University of San Francisco (1984-1990) and seven years as the Associate Head Baseball Coach at Canada College (1990-1996).  During his tenure at the University of San Francisco, Dino graduated over 95% of his student-athletes.  The trend continued with his move to Canada College, with 90% of Dino’s student-athletes graduating, while 80% of those graduates received athletic scholarships.

 

Dino Nomicos’ collegiate career began at Canada College where he played centerfield, was team captain and earned All-Conference honors under longtime coach Lyman Ashley.  Dino then transferred to the University of San Francisco where again he started in centerfield, acted as team captain and earned All-Conference honors.  Dino finished his playing career in Montreal, Canada, where he played two years of independent professional baseball.

 

In 1984, Dino Nomicos graduated from the University of San Francisco with a Bachelor’s degree in Physical Education/Sports Management.  In 1990, Dino furthered his education, graduating from the University of San Francisco with a Master’s degree in Educational Administration. Dino and his wife, Cathy, still reside in San Francisco and have two daughters, Athena and Diana.
