Trojans Head to Super Regional
Skyline College opened its postseason with a 4–2 victory over Cosumnes River College Friday at Trojan Diamond, taking a 1–0 lead in their first-round series.
The Trojans struck early, scoring two runs in the first inning. Nick Tobin contributed an RBI single and Kyle Liu added a two-run single in the seventh to give the Skyline a 4-2 lead. Liu finished the game with three RBIs.
Starting pitcher Steven Dalton delivered a strong performance, allowing one earned run over seven innings while striking out nine batters. Devin Costa secured the win with two scoreless innings in relief.
Skyline College secured a 5–2 victory over Cosumnes River College in Game #2, completing a sweep in their first-round playoff series.
The Trojans' offense was highlighted by Vinny Smith's three-run homer in the sixth inning, which extended Skyline's lead to 5–1. Smith went 2-for-4 with four RBIs in the game. Trey Johnson contributed with two hits and an RBI, while Santino Nanez added three hits and a stolen base.
On the mound, Nikau Heeney started for Skyline, allowing one run over three innings with five strikeouts. Tyler Pechetti earned the win with six innings of relief, giving up one run and striking out five.
For Cosumnes River, Chase Christenson led the offense with a solo home run in the third inning. Elijah White added an RBI double in the ninth, but the Hawks were limited to seven hits and struck out ten times.
With this win, Skyline improved to 31–10 and advanced to the next round of the postseason. Cosumnes River concluded their season with a 22–19 record.
After sweeping through their first round playoff series #7 seed Skyline will head to West Valley College May 8th-10th to participate in a 3C2A Super Regional featuring the #14 seed Los Medanos College and the #2 seed West Valley.
