Mission Statement

The Sports Medicine Staff at Skyline College is responsible for establishing a safe, comfortable and healthy environment for the care and prevention of athletic injuries. The Sports Medicine Staff is committed to providing exceptional services to the student-athlete with a qualified medical staff which includes 2 certified athletic trainers, team physicians, team orthopedic surgeons, and a variety of health care professions.

Jose begins his 12th year at Skyline College as the Head Athletic Trainer. He is a graduate of San Francisco State University with a degree in Physical Education, emphasis in Pre-Physical Therapy. Jose is certified by the National Athletic Trainers’ Association Board of Certification.

Jose has established himself as one of many well know and respected athletic trainers within the Community College levels.  Jose’s recognition goes beyond the athletic training room as he is also involved in mentoring young students through an internship program, partnered with San Francisco State University, his alma mater.

Jose’s Career highlights include: City College of San Francisco (22 years as the Head athletic Trainer), The Shriner’s East-West Shrine Game (Head Athletic Trainer for the West Team), MotoGP Championships (Medical Staff at Laguna Seca Raceway), CCSF Judo Tournament, CCCSS Representative for Men’s Basketball, San Jose Saber Cats (Arena Football League), Nike Football Combines, Nike Volleyball Festival, and  Adidas Slam-N-Jam.

Jose resides in San Mateo, California with his wife Jeri, son Zach and daughter Alana. In his free time, Jose enjoys family time, playing his many ukuleles, scuba diving, and cheering for the San Francisco Giants and San Jose Sharks.

 Kayla

Kayla Crittendon, ATC

Kayla is a home-town athletic trainer. Graduating from Tera Nova high School in Pacifica, CA. Kayla was a two-sport athlete at Skyline College, excelling in Volleyball and Basketball. She continued her academic career at San Jose State University earning a bachelor’s degree in Athletic Training, concentrating her time with the Spartan Football and Gymnastics programs. Kayla retuned to Skyline College and began an internship as a student athletic trainer. Kayla is certified by the National Athletic Trainer’s Association Board of Certification.

Kayla’s career highlight include: Skyline College, Half Moon Bay High School, Stanford University Tai Kwon do Tournaments, and USA Olympic Gymnastics.

 Kayla enjoys spending her free time with her twins, family and friends, crafting and playing video games.
